In Witcher 2 I'd love to see alchemy really be something you need to survive and have the potions/bombs/oils be general enough to be able to stock and use them constantly. Note that if the game actually required having those I probably wouldn't have made it past the first few hours, so I guess it's good that you don't need them.

The game was really shouting "HEY GUY USE THE POTIONS" but it was easier to just cleave through stuff without worrying about always having a full spread of specialized oils or situationally useful buffs. I did use necrophage oil when I remembered and when I didn't there wasn't much of a difference. There were a ton of buff potions I made gathering dust due to the toxicity being a thing. My wife's comments on such things are typically "Hmm" followed by a "Don't let the kids watch you play that." (like I would! pssh!) But she also makes fun of me for when I play MMOs and spending like half an hour easily setting up the costume and colors for a guy and about 3 times more for a female character - especially in City Of Heroes. But yea, I don't even want that image on my screen at work here.
